Oxytocin, secreted by posterior pituitary gland, causes contraction of the smooth muscles of myometrium during child birth and ejection of milk from the mammary glands. Glucagon is secreted by a-cells of islets of langerhans of pancreas. Its main function is to increase blood glucose level. Adrenaline (epinephrine) is secreted by adrenal medulla. It increases the rate and force of heart beat. Thyroid gland secretes thyroxine that regulates basal metabolic rate.
